Mahua is a sweet flower used to brew liquor in some regions of India – chiefly in the eastern ghats, and central zones of India. It oozes a honeyed liquid that emits an intoxicating odor. Though chiefly used for making alcohol, it is also used as raisin.
A less employed use is as Mahua oil, which has a distasteful flavor. Because it comes cheap, it is used to light lamps in villages.
Mahua in general means anything that has an intoxicating / mesmeric effect and sweet of course. So, you have girls named after Mahua.
